Socrates once spoke, “The only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.”
This quote had me in deep thought over the past few days. Not many among us can honestly claim we know what is in store for our future and where we may land.
We make plans, we even work towards certain life goals and all of a sudden something can pop up and alter the course of our direction forever. It is not something I think lightly on, because I have had and worked towards many plans and life goals only to see the universe interject and put me on a different path.
Some new paths were warmly received while others felt forced upon me. The truth is life goes on and we have to be able to adapt and move on or forever be stuck in our own muck.
Some of us believe in fate and that things happen for a reason. If I were to be asked this question a year ago I might have been inclined to agree. Yet a lot can happen over a years time altering my own perception.
A year ago I was in a different place with a different person. I thought I had my life all mapped out and the compass pointing in a solid direction. However, fate seems to be a double edged sword. Much has changed over the past year, and some certainties I assumed are no longer true. I have lost a great deal, but I have learned just as much as I have lost.
Today I have awaken with a belief in both. Things do happen to us for a reason, yet I believe we have the capability to control our fate more than we think.
It would be foolish to stand facing the sun and expect answers to all our questions by receiving “signs” on what to do and where to go. We have more power over our future and what will become of us.
When placed on a new path we are not helpless beings who are confined to the destiny laid out in front of us. We have the power if we choose to use it to alter our own destination; our own path.
The key to this transformation is our will and motivation to seek the fulfillment of our heart and soul. We need not stand idly by as a Divine power or entity chooses the road we must travel and the obstacles we must overcome.
If we are truly inspired, motivated and moved, we can make our own destiny. We can attempt to seek what we feel fills the deepest desires in our hearts. We need only ignite action to our cause, belief and feelings.
I can’t promise that it will always work out. What I can promise is that with every effort we make, the outcome of the actions we take will lead us to a different path, a new path where we must begin all over again. Each new path has new experiences and new challenges to face. Each path we walk down is different.
Different does not always have to imply change or bad.
It can be frustrating at times, but we have to believe, we have to have faith that our actions will eventually lead us to where we are meant to be and down the path that will make us the most happy.
We can’t ever give up. We can’t ever give in to the notion that certain things are never meant to be for us. The only way that holds truth is if we give up or are willing to accept the simplicity in our lives. The cold hard truth is that no matter how much we plan or prepare, we never truly know what is in store for us. Again, “The only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.” ~Socrates
Let us accept and embrace this. This does not mean we need to be ignorant, but instead, understand that some things just need to happen. We may need to catch a bit of luck or be in the right place at the right time. Certainly there are things we can do to improve our odds of happiness, but let us not place too much pressure or force it.
We all are deserving of more. However to be deserving of more, we need to give more. We need to try harder and be willing to do things that take us out of our comfort zone. We need to be willing to take risks. We need to be willing to fail, get back up and try again.
So few of us are blessed with the easy path. Most of us take many journeys on many different paths before we find the right path for us.
Some of us will be fortunate to have a partner who is willing to journey with us anywhere and everywhere. For others, we must travel alone until that one perfect day comes where everything comes together and all roads converge.
Until that day, always follow our heart because our heart will never lie to us. Our heart is the truest gift next to our lives we will ever be blessed with. Whether we are able to share our heart with another will always be a mystery. The best course of action is to listen when our heart speaks to us and heed the truthful words it speaks. There will never be more truth than what lay in our own hearts.
